TNA Impact Review 5/14/09

Mick Foley heads to the ring to talk about the match at Sacrifice. He goes over each competitor is willing to give up and talks about Jeff Jarrett’s DVD. Foley says that Jarrett will not be part of Impact tonight. He says he feels responsible for his absence. He says he has another DVD with footage from Nashville. Foley says his thoughts will be on Double J.

Jeremy Borash is with the Main Event Mafia without Kurt Angle. Scott Steiner apparently is left in charge and put on the mic. They talk about what Kevin Nash did with Jenna Morasca.

JB is with Foley in his office to try and find out what’s on the DVD. Foley takes down Jarrett’s picture. Eric Young comes in and says that his shot was a tag match and he wants an opportunity tonight. EY has a match with Samoa Joe tonight.

Chris Sabin w/ Alex Shelley vs Christopher Daniels

Sabin and Daniels lock up and Sabin powers down Daniels with a shoulder block. A few quick reverses is ended with a back breaker by Daniels. Daniels fight on the top rope and it ends with Daniels getting hit by a hesitation drop kick. Daniels kicks out of two and has Shelley rake his eyes.  Sabin puts a high boot into Daniels face. Daniels counters Sabin’s jump with two knees and a huge back breaker. Daniels hits an inverted curb stomp and follows it up with and STO for a two count. Daniels goes for the Angels Wings and Shelley saves his partner by grabbing the leg. Sabin hits a springboard forearm. The two trade offensive moves as Daniels powers down Sabin and hits the BME for the win. There was a lot of action back and forth.  This was a fun match to watch and could be the best of the night. 4 out of 5 stars.

Back in Foley’s office, Rudy Charles, Slick Johnson, and Earl Hebner are talking in his office. Hebner is not to disqualify Samoa Joe under NO CIRCUMSTANCES. This basically means EY is a dead man walking.

JB is with Scott Steiner and Jenna Morasca. Steiner tells Morasca that she appologized. I am so happy that Steiner is on the mic tonight because this is comedic gold. He is like a stupid 7 year old with a mic in his hand. Morasca agrees to a meeting if Sharmell appologizes.

Lauren is with Angelina Love asking about who she was talking to. Cute Kip comes in and he says that he challenges Awesome Kong to a stretcher match.

Samoa Joe vs Eric Young

This is going to be extremely ugly. Joe goes right after EY and the beat down has started. Young tries to hit Joe to gain momentum, but Joe is not being hurt. Joe throws a chair at EY and eventually gets him into the Coquina Clutch. EY is out cold. Samoa Joe wins the match in roughly a minute and a half. Joe grabs EY and takes him out of the Impact Zone. This was your typical squash match, and does leave the door open for an Eric Young heel turn. 3 out of 5 stars. Samoa Joe took Eric Young and throws him into the back of a waiting car.

Mike Tenay is with Sting and he asks about his career. He says he wants to bring change and he says it suffered a major blow at Lockdown. He says he should have known that Foley was going to put him through all of it. Sting goes on to say he went back to the hotel and he said everything has been worth the pain and sacrifice of his career. He said that Sacrifice could be the last match of his career.

Taylor Wilde and Lauren’s double date is up and they are talking about who the blind date is for Wilde. Wilde sees Daffney and she is the blind date. Daffney tries to throw Wilde over the edge of a restraunt on the second floor of the mall. This means we have Daffney and Taylor Wilde in the Knockout Monster’s Ball match so far.

Stretcher Match: Awesome Kong vs Cute Kip

Raisha Saeed and Angelina Love are at ring side. Kip locks up with her and he pushes her into the  corner. Kip is splashed in the corner.  Kip goes for a chokeslam, but Saeed hits Kip with a low blow. After two chair shots, Kong puts Kip’s head in a chair and hits a couple splashes. Kip is on the stretcher and he is down and out. This was another squash match. I wish this one could have went another couple minutes. 2.5 out of 5 stars.

JB is with Scott Steiner and Sharmell. He tells her that both women will appologize to each other. I can’t wait until the meeting.

Lauren is with Team 3D and they think the tournament is going extremely well. They are attacked by the British Invasion. I think this sets up the British Invasion to win the tournament.

Team 3D Tag Team Invitational Semifinal Match: The British Invasion vs Suicide and The Amazing Red

Suicide and Doug Williams will start off the match, Suicide kicks Williams and the two trade near falls. Williams tags into Brutus Magnus. Red tags in and the double team takes out Williams and Magnus, but Magnus turns Red inside out with a big boot. Williams hits a scoop slam on Williams and a knee drop for a two count. Magnus is tagged in and he steps on Red. A leg drop gets Magnus a near fall. Red kicks Magnus and hits a jumping reverse STO. Suicide and Williams tag in and Williams takes both members of the British Invasion out. Magnus is taken out by Red with a missle dropkick and a frontflip senton. The guns kick Suicide in the face and Doug Williams hits a top rope knee drop for the pin. This was a very good match, but not the best of the night. 3 out of 5 stars.

After the match, the Guns hit the Made in Detroit on Amazing Red. They try to take off Suicide’s mask. Lethal Consequences comes out. Jay Lethal says that they are going to take off their mask and prove he is Daniels. Lethal goes to take off the mask and Daniels comes out for the save of Suicide. Suicide and Daniels are cleaning house. Consequences Creed is hit with the Angels Wings. Daniels and Suicide shake hands and the Motor City Machine Guns are stunned.

JB is at the meeting and both women are going insane with Scott Steiner tells JB to get Nash and Booker T.

Team No Limit vs Kevin Nash

Nash will start things out with Yujiro. Naito hits a missle drop kick and goes for a top rope clothesline. Nash catches Naito and hits a choke slam. Yujiro is taken out as will and goes for a Jack Knife Powerbomb on Naito. He hits his finisher and pins Naito for the win. Nash says that that Samoa Joe will face a nation of violence of Nash’s own. This was another squash match. The difference is that this one was no where near the level it could have been. 2 out of 5 stars.

Lauren is with AJ Styles and they talk about the I Quit match at Sacrifice against Booker T.  He says that he has a lot of heart and that the belt will be with him after Sacrifice.

“I Quit” Match: Jethro Holiday vs Booker T w/ Sharmell

Booker and Jethro lock up with Holiday eating Booker T’s shots. Holiday hits a big shoulder block and hits a big clothesline, sending Booker out of the ring. Booker T hits Jethro with a right hand and is sent into the ring post. Booker hits a super kick and a suplex. Booker hits a back drop and slaps Holiday. Holiday hits a few huge chest chops and then eats a big spin kick. Booker T mounts Jethro Holiday and reigns right hands down. Booker picks up Jethro and goes for the Axe Kick. Holiday hits a big boot and reigns down right hands. Booker  floats over Holiday but he gets turned inside out by a huge clothesline. Booker T hits Holiday with a chair and an Axe Kick. Holiday says “I Quit” and Booker T picks up the win. This was a great match from start to finish. 4 out of 5 stars.

Foley is in the production truck and says that they have to play the DVD, otherwise they are fired.

Mick Foley comes out to the ring and the DVD footage is up next.

Jeff Jarrett is at the arena where he had his second match. This arena is known as the Asylum. Double J shows the bathroom where everyone got changed. Jarrett goes to the box office where Mick Foley attacks him. Foley uses an extension cord to choke Jarrett. He throws him into the bathroom and sends him into some steel poles. Mick slams a gate into him and keeps the beatdown going.  Foley picks up a chair and hits Jarrett twice. Jarrett is crawling away and Foley takes out his leg. Boos are eminating from the crowd. Mick Foley says Jarrett learned that sometimes you can’t go home.

Overall Promo Rating: 4 out of 5 stars. The DVD footage was well done.

Best Match: Tie: Daniels vs Sabin and Booker T vs Jethro Holiday

Worst Match: Team No Limit vs Kevin Nash

Overall Rating: 3.2 out of 5 stars

I went 4 for 4 in match winners. The only problem is that I had the two mystery opponents wrong.
